Identification
Small raptor species reaching up to 36 cm in length for a maximum weight of 200 g. Variable. Back and head dark grey (male), white throat, white belly and breast with dark brown barring. Rufous-brown flanks. Long tail.
Range and habitat
This subspecies occurs from Nepal to central and south China, to Thailand and Cambodia. Species also found in India, Sri Lanka, Philippines and Indonesia. Lives mostly in forests but also mangroves and plantations, up to 3400 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species’ true status is poorly known because the species is often overlooked. The main threat to its survival is deforestation, in most of its range.
