Identification
Adults can grow to about 18 cm in length. Tail is laterally compressed, large head, no back ridge. Coloration is almost entirely black with nearly perfectly round yellow blotches on back and flanks. Males underside is bright red.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Asia, in south-eastern Turkey, northern Iraq and north-western Iran. It lives in mountain streams, from 1500 to 2000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Not listed
Status : The species is probably declining although almost nothing is known about it from the wild, because of habitat loss and water pollution.
