Identification
Adults can grow to 15 cm in length but the species is often smaller. Skin covered with big round knob-like warts. Coloration variable, from yellow to orange or black. Purple saddle-like markings on flanks and back are conspicuous.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific region, from Maldives and Mauritius to Indonesia, Solomon Islands and New Caledonia. Lives in sheltered rocky reefs, often with sponges, down to 50 meters deep.

Status : The species could be vulnerable to overcollecting in some parts of its range, for the international trade.
