Identification
Unmistakable species, reaching up to 92 cm in length. Species with thin slightly curved jaws with big teeth and horn-like projections above eyes. Coloration bright orange to olive-beige with dark-edged white blotches.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Reunion to Hawaii and Society Islands, north to south Japan and Korea, south to north Australia. Lives in coral and rocky reefs, mostly in temperate to warm temperate waters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is collected regularly for the aquarium trade but, so far, remains fairly common in its range.
