Identification
Very large moray with wide mouth. Adult coloration is white to beige with crowded brown-black spots, almost forming a tight reticulated pattern but not forming clumps like G. isingteena.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from Red Sea and east Africa to Papua New Guinea, south Japan and north Australia. Found in reef holes on reef flats and outer continental reef slopes, to 50 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range but seems to be globally uncommon. It is caught for trade locally but this isn’t believed to be a threat. Range overlaps with protected areas.
