Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 70 cm. Fairly slender species with short snout. Coloration entirely golden yellow when juvenile. Adults are brown with numerous yellow dots all around body, including head.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in western Atlantic ocean from Florida and Bermuda to Caribbean and south Brazil. Also around central and eastern Atlantic islands. Lives in coral reefs and rocky shorelines, down to 60 meters deep.

Status : The species is very common in suitable habitat within its large range. Potentially vulnerable to habitat destruction and pollution.
