Identification
The species grows to 150 cm in length. Large mouth and elongated snout. Snout and forehead with yellow tinge. Rest of body with dark-edged brown blotches separated by undulating cream to beige vertical lines on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and east Africa to French Polynesia and Hawaii, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in reef flats in tropical waters, around rubble and debris, from 9 to 110 m.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a huge range but often occurs in areas where habitat loss and pollution are real threats. Population declines need to be monitored.
