Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 1.40 m. Cylindrical body with greatly reduced fins and round snout. Coloration is yellowish to beige with yellow-edged dark brown or black spots on whole flanks. Jaws are speckled with black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific region, from East Africa to Philippines, Taiwan and Australia, east to Hawaii and coasts of Mexico, Panama and Costa Rica. Lives in lagoons and seaward reefs, usually on sand or amongst rocks.
