Identification
The species can reach 60 cm in length. Large head with blunt snout and short dark barbels on sides of mouth. Coloration mostly silvery with light blue tinge on flanks and clear belly. Silvery grey fins with broad dark edges.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in south New Guinea and north Australia, from King River to Cape York Peninsula. Does not occur past Great Dividing Range. Lives in lowland muddy, corridors and floodplains, lagoons, estuaries, rivers.
