Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 4 cm. Entire body is transparent reddish with faint longitudinal red line. Red blotches around head. Fins are bright red except from edge of anal fins and whole dorsal fins which are black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in south America, from Guianas to Paraguay and Bolivia, in the Amazon, Guaporé and Paraguay river basins. Often found in stagnant waters or slow moving rivers with aquatic vegetation.

Status : This species has a large range and is now less collected than it used to be because it’s well bred in captivity and bred intensively for trade.
