Identification
Adults can reach a length of 11 cm. Slender and elongated body with large eyes and small mouth. Coloration is silvery with a broad longitudinal black band on flanks and black back. Fins are reddish, silvery line under eyes. Dark back.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in North America, in east and central USA, in Missouri, Arkansas, Kansas and Oklahoma in the Arkansas, Red and Upper Neosho rivers. Lives in small to medium river with strong current and rocky substrate.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species remains common in most of its range so far although local declines occurred in recent times, mostly because of habitat destruction.
