Identification
The species grows to 45 cm in length. Body with pronounced back hump and broad tail. Truncated outer edge of dorsal fin, long pectoral fins. Scales are shiny golden with black edges and very thin black stripes on flanks. 2 pairs of barbels.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in eastern Asia and is endemic to China, being found in the middle and upper reaches of Yangtze river. Found in slow-flowing deep water areas over rocky substrate.

Status : The species’ status has yet to be assessed. Habitat loss and overfishing could be two possible threats in the future.
