Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 3.4 cm. Round head with big eyes. Coloration mottled grey-brown with more or less shiny blue to violet areas on flanks and fins. Black spot on dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
The species is found in south-Eastern USA, from North Carolina to Alabama, south to Everglades park in Florida. Lives in swamps and very slow moving rivers with muddy bottom.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species isn’t currently declining. The many populations recorded are either stable or thriving.
