Identification
The species grows to 35 cm in length. Fairly round head profile with very big eyes. Fins dusky white with dark red-black blotches and broad edges. Flanks white to grey white with dark reddish to black edges on each flank scales. Dark face.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to Line and Tuamoto Islands, north to south Japan south to Great Barrier reef. Lives near drop-offs and steep reef slopes in coral-rich areas, down to 30 m.

Status : The species has a huge distribution and seems to be facing no threats at this time.
