Identification
Adults can grow to 30 cm. Very large red eyes with dark areas above and below pupil (no band). Dark red to dark band on gill coverts. Coloration silvery-pink with broad red edges to flank scales. Clear reddish fins without any white edges.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to Palau and Samoa, north to Ryukyu islands, south to Great Barrier reef and New Caledonia. Lives in sheltered reefs, often in turbid waters of bays and lagoons, from 3 to 40 m.
