Identification
Adults reach a length of 30 cm, the record being 55 cm. Elongated body, head with powerful jaws. Coloration is globally yellowish to clear grey-beige with small spots on the whole top half of flanks and back.

Range and habitat
The species is endemic to the Gila river system which is found in southern USA, in Arizona and New Mexico. Lives in clear mountain creeks with cool water temperature, above 2000 m.

IUCN RED LIST : ENDANGERED
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has declined dramatically because of loss of habitat and degradation of water systems. Protected by law in its whole range.
