Identification
The species can grow to 18 cm in length. Bright yellow face with blue lips, broad vertical band on cheeks and forehead. Flanks are white, then vermiculated black and white and all black at rear, especially on dorsal fin. Bright yellow tail.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from Japan to most of Indonesia (including Mentawai Islands), to north Australia and Vogelkop Peninsula. Lives in coastal reefs with rich coral growth, to 20 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and remains safe so far. It is regularly collected for trade and this needs to be monitored.
