Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 20 cm. Unmistakable. Ground coloration is bright shiny orange with green tinge on middle flanks and on head. Dorsal and anal fins are edged with bright blue.

Range and habitat
The species only occurs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from south tip of Baja California to Revillagigedo Islands (Mexico). Vagrant to Clipperton Island. Lives in shallow coral reefs, from 3 to 30 meters.

IUCN RED LIST : VULNERABLE
CITES : Appendix II
Status : The species has a very small range with 99% of population occurring around a single archipelago. Vulnerable to climate change and habitat loss.
