Identification
The species can reach 35 cm. Elongated dorsal and anal fins, dark, becoming orange with white edge. Coloration dark blue with brighter blue dots on scales. Yellow tail and pectoral fins. Vertical white bar on forward part of flank.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from Gulf of California and Cortez Sea to Peru, including Galapagos Islands. Lives in rocky reefs with clear waters, down to 80 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range and is said to be fairly common on a global scale. No known threats at this time.
