Identification
The species grows to a length of 25 cm. Unmistakable. Yellow head and breast with black forehead and two blue bands. Flanks orange-yellow with broad transversal dark-blue edged white bands. Blue dorsal and anal fins, yellow tail.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Tuamoto Islands, south to New Caledonia, north to south Japan. Lives in coral rich areas of lagoons and seaward reefs, to 80 meters deep.

Status : The species has huge range and is occasionally collected for the trade. There are no known threats at this time.
