Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Small species growing to 13 cm in length. Unmistakable, profile and less steep than other Chaetodon. Coloration yellow with diagonal light blue bands on flanks, edged with black dots. White tail with black spot. Black spot on forehead.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the central Pacific Ocean and is endemic to the Hawaiian islands. Lives in deep rocky and coral reef areas, from 4 to 65 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a small range but most of its range lies within a strictly protected marine area. Collection for trade isn’t considered a threat.
