Identification
Adults can grow to 13 cm in length. Body light dull yellow with alternating vertical rows of smaller and larger brighter black spots. Belly white. Broad and fading black band from forehead to eyes and chin. Yellow fin, black tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the eastern central Pacific Ocean, only around Hawaiian islands and Johnston island. Lives in shallow reef flats and around seamounts, to 250 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is endemic to two archipelagos in the Pacific Ocean. Its range lies mostly in well protected areas. The species is considered safe.
