Notes : No subspecies known.
Adults can reach a maximum length of 14 cm. Laterally compressed body with protruding snout. Coloration bright yellow with orange dorsal fin. Two large oblique black bands on upper and middle back. Black band on head.
Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indian Ocean, mostly around islands from Mauritius, Reunion, Madagascar to Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Islands. Lives in steep drop-offs amongst rubble, down to 80 m, rarely above 20 m.

Status : The species has a large range and lives deep which means that it cannot be captured in great numbers for international trade. Still common in the wild.
