Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
The species grows to 20 cm in length. Unmistakable. Body color either grey-white or yellow with two groups of two vertical black lines on flanks. Vertical black lines also visible around face and near tail. Transparent tail fin.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Sri Lanka to Solomon Islands, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in areas of rich coral growth in lagoons inner reefs, to 20 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a very large range. It is totally dependent on corals for its survival and habitat loss could become a major threat.
