Identification
Adults can grow to 12 cm with short snout. Coloration dull blue-yellow with clumps of dark dots on flanks forming vertical bars on upper half of body. Black forehead spot, yellow band on face. Orange tail peduncle. Broad yellow edge to fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Pacific Ocean (mostly south) from Indonesia to Line Islands, north to Ryukyu islands. Lives in coral reefs, mostly in outer reef slopes, down to 45 meters deep.

Status : The species has a large range where it is known to be widespread and at least locally common. There are no known threats.
