Identification
This species can reach 18 cm in length. Triangular body with broad feather-like extension to dorsal fin and elongated snout. Yellow snout, dusky dorsal fin base. White body with two broad oblique black and brown bands. Black pelvic fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Cocos Keeling and Christmas Island to Pitcairn group, to south Japan and Australia. Lives in heavy coral growth areas in lagoons and outer reefs, to 45 meters deep.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is widespread and common within its huge range. It isn’t completely dependent on corals and no declines have been noted so far.
