Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 15 cm. Body coloration is dark brown to black with a broad vertical white band behind eyes and a thinner one in middle of flanks. Belly, snout and fins bright yellow except for white caudal fin.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western Indian Ocean, from Kenya to South Africa, east to Madagascar and Mauritius. Lives in lagoons and outer reefs at depths down to 30 meters.

Status : This species has a fairly small range but remains at least locally common within it.
