Identification
The species can grow to 13 cm in length. Laterally compressed and deep body. Sometimes black or black with variable amount of bright orange. White band around head, thick white margin on tail and on dorsal fin, forming a saddle.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from the Ryukyu islands and Gulf of Thailand, south to North Australia, east to Solomon islands. Lives in silty lagoons and harbors, from 2 to 30 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a wide distribution and does not seem to be threatened despite collection for the trade happening in parts of its range.
