Identification
Adults can reach up to 33 cm in length. One of the biggest members of its family with high dorsal and anal fins, and a big round head. Ground coloration is brown-green with faint vertical bars on flanks and blue dots all over body and fins.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the eastern Indian Ocean, around western and southern Australia. Occur near rocky reefs, usually around caves, from 15 to 25 meters deep.

Status : The species seems to remain common. Very rarely collected for aquarium trade. No major loss of habitat recorded.
