Identification
Adults can reach nearly 40 cm in length, common length being around 28 cm. Cylindrical body with slight hump on back. Long barbels under mouth. Coloration silvery to pearly white with longitudinal yellow line on flanks. Yellow tail fin.

Range and habitat
Occurs in the Atlantic ocean, west from Bermuda and Florida to Brazil, including Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico, east around Sao Tome and Cape Verde. Lives in sandy areas around reefs and lagoons, down to 50 meters.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is common to abundant in most of its range. It’s targeted by fisheries and preyed upon by introduced lionfish but these aren’t threats.
