Identification
Adults can reach about 38 cm in length. Cylindrical body with slight hump on back. Long barbels under mouth. Coloration overall pinkish with broad horizontal orange-yellow band from head to tail. Blue stripes sometimes on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from the Red Sea to Hawaii, north to South Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Lives in sandy areas around reefs and lagoons, down to 110 meters.

Status : The species is at least locally common to abundant within its large range.
