Identification
Adults can reach 11 cm in length. Big eyes with three black spots. Coloration is greyish to white with irregular orange dots and spots all over its body. Dorsal fins partially spotted orange. Throat and upper belly dark brown to black.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Pacific Ocean, from South Japan and Philippines to Palau, south to Northern Australia. Lives in costal and outer reef sand slopes near coral reefs, down to 40 meters deep.

Status : The species remains common within its range but is often captured for international and local aquarium trade. Vulnerable to loss of habitat.
