Identification
The species grows to 20 cm in length. Coloration yellow-white with clear and dark red mottling. Two rows of square red blotches on flanks separated by yellow areas and pink lines. Vertical blue lines on cheeks. Dorsal fin with red dots.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indian Ocean, from Red Sea, Persian gulf and east Africa to Indonesia and west Australian coasts. Lives in shallow estuaries and coastal bays, to 25 meters deep.

Status : The species has yet to be assessed but seems to remain common. Very rarely collected for aquarium trade. No threats recorded.
