Identification
White body with orange brown vertical bands and black markings on upper flanks, brown tail fin. Blue line on cheeks, grey head. Blue edged round black spot on dorsal fin.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, widely scattered localities from Red Sea and East Africa to New Caledonia. Found around sandy areas of shallow lagoons and inner reefs, near deep silty slopes.

Status : The species has a large range but its occurrence is very patchy and poorly documented. So far, no threats are known and the species is very rarely collected for the aquarium trade.
