Identification
Adults can reach a total length of 90 cm for a weight of 9 kg. Elongated face with big round eyes and large mouth. Silvery gray to brown back and flanks. Lower flanks and belly white. Thick black curved line on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western Atlantic Ocean, in the Gulf of Mexico from Tampico to Belize, east to Cuba. Lives in coastal waters, estuaries and lagoons, down to 20 meters.

Status : The species is targeted by commercial fisheries in Mexico. The species is thought to be globally declining but still locally common.
