Identification
Adults can reach 1,20 m in length for a weight of 15 kg. Large head with wide mouth and big eyes, adults have quite deep bodies. Coloration tan, more white on belly with orange to brown spots and five H-shaped dark bars on flanks.

Range and habitat
This species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area from Red Sea and East Africa to Fiji, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Migrated to the Mediterranean Sea. Lives in coral reefs near coastlines, juveniles closer to shore, to 100 meters deep.

Status : The species has a huge range but is overexploited in many parts of it, causing declines. Effective population management necessary for its survival.
