Identification
The species grows to 13 cm long. Upper half of body bright orange, lower half of flanks light to bright pink, whitish chin. Pink-red spot on dorsal fin. Caudal fin with broad pink-red edges. Fins mostly light pink. Male brighter than female.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Mauritius and the Maldives to Hawaii, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in coral reefs in lagoons and outer reefs, from 5 to 104 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and locally very common. Collection for the trade is minimal. No threats are known at this time.
