Identification
Adults can reach up to 22 cm in length. Fairly large head, relatively flat forehead. Upper part of body is covered with wide black and dirty white bands. Lower flanks, chin and belly orange to light brown. Dark brown bands on tail fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the western Atlantic Ocean, from Bermuda and south Florida to Bahamas and the Caribbean, south to northern Brazil. Lives in clear water areas of rocky and coral reefs, down to 70 meters deep.

Status : The species has a fairly large range. It isn’t common but doesn’t suffer from any known threats.
