Identification
Adults can reach a maximum length of 25 cm. Fairly large mouth, big eyes, head profile almost convex. Entire body bright golden yellow with diagonal rows of white dots on flanks. Bluish eyes.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in Western Atlantic Ocean from South Carolina and Bermuda to Antilles and Gulf of Mexico, south to Brazil. Occurs on rocky and coral reefs, near ledges, down to 60 meters.

Status : The species seems to be at least locally common in its big range. Local declines due to habitat degradation may occur.
