Identification
Adults grow to 36 cm in length. Gently sloping and curving forehead. Coloration mostly silvery with three broad curved brown to black bands starting on forehead and forward upper back, ending on lower back. Fins are broadly striped.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Red Sea and East Africa to Samoa, north to south Japan, south to Lord Howe Island. Lives around shallow sandy bottoms near river mouths and estuaries, to 350 m.

Status : The species needs to be investigated to figure out if it is in fact a species complex. True impact of fisheries on this species need better assessment.
