Identification
The species can grow to 22 cm in length. Body laterally compressed and losange-shaped, with humps on back and belly. Fins are golden yellow. Body is dark golden yellow with clumps of black dots and clear mottling near lateral line.

Range and habitat
The species is found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from British Columbia and north-west Canada to Baja California in Mexico. Lives in coastal areas, around kelp forests, down to 30 meters.

Status : The species has a large range. It is heavily dependant on kelp for its survival and the rarefaction of kelp forests could make this species threatened.
