Identification
Adults can reach 20,3 cm long. Laterally compressed body with small head and oval body shape. Coloration whitish-beige with rows of black dots on flank scales. Fading vertical golden-yellow bands from gill coverts to tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
The species is found in the eastern Pacific Ocean, from Wrangell (in southern Alaska) to northern Baja California, Mexico. Lives in shallow coastal areas, around bays and backwaters, to 146 meters deep.
