Identification
The species grows to 97 cm long for a weight of 10 kg. Humped back, sloping forehead. Coloration bronze-yellow to silvery, becoming clearer on belly and face. Each flank scales has a dark dot. Large black blotch sometimes seen on flanks.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Gulf of Aden and East Africa to Fiji, north to south Japan, south to northern Australia. Lives in coral reefs, mangrove swamps and estuaries, down to 80 meters deep.

Status : The species has a huge range. It is vulnerable to target fishing and declines have been noted. The species is farmed in floating pens.
