Identification
Adults can grow to 35 cm in length. Body profile not deep and head gently sloped. Big eye. Coloration silvery blue with thick yellow longitudinal band from eye to tail. Faint yellow horizontal lines on lower flanks. Yellow fins and tail peduncle.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from East Africa to the Solomon Islands and Tonga, north to south Japan, south to north Australia. Lives in offshore coral reefs and trawling grounds, to at least 100 meters deep.

Status : The species is widespread and occurs in protected areas. However it is a major component of fisheries in many parts of its range.
