Identification
The species reaches 40 cm. Light brown band from snout to eye. Coloration mostly white to grey white, oblique lines above lateral line, longitudinal line below lateral line, separated by thick brown band mid flanks. Bright yellow fins.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Indo-Pacific area, from Seychelles and the Maldives to Fiji and Marshall islands, north to south Japan, south to Australia. Lives in coral reefs and nearby rocky reefs, from 10 to 72 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still widespread but is a major component of fisheries in southeast Asia. Monitoring of pressure and declines is recommended.
