Identification
Adults can grow up to 25 cm in length. Presence of venomous spines on dorsal fin. Coloration is light bluish grey, turning pink on middle flanks. Two broad diagonal dark bands. Head, upper back and tail yellow with narrow turquoise lines.

Range and habitat
The species occurs in the Western Pacific Ocean, from eastern Philippines and Malaysia to Palau, Tonga and north-west Australia. Lives in coral rich areas of lagoons, seaward reefs, down to 15 meters deep.

CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is still relatively common but some populations could be declining because of habitat loss and pollution. Not often captured for trade.
