Identification
Very long snout, elongated dorsal and anal fins, white tail spine. Coloration almost entirely very dark brown to black. Pectoral fins with slight blue tinge.

Range and habitat
Eastern-central Pacific ocean, around Marquesas, Society, Tuamoto and Pitcairn islands. Found in lagoons and seaward reefs where it feeds on filamentous algae.

Status : The species has a small fragmented range where it remains globally uncommon. It is caught for the trade but the impact of this possible threat has yet to be documented.
