Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Large rounded snout, head brown to red-orange. First third of body orange-red with black spots. Rear two-thirds with black and white broad vertical bands, including tail. Fins tips are elongated.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from East Africa to Micronesia, Samoa and Tonga, mostly around islands, to north Australia. Found near mixed coral-sand-rubble areas of lagoons and seaward reefs.

Status : The species has a huge range where it is widespread and globally fairly common to common. It is occasionally collected for the trade and for food but this isn’t considered a threat so far.
