Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Humped forehead, prominent teeth, yellow eyes. Olive-brown head and back, white chin and belly. Broad black and yellow areas on mid-flanks. Bright yellow anal and tail fin.

Range and habitat
Indo-Pacific, from Sri Lanka to French Polynesia, to Ryukyu islands and New Caledonia. Found around reef flats and lagoon reefs, in areas with seagrass, rubble, coral and sand.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species has a large range and remains locally common to abundant. It is often targeted for the trade and caught for food. Monitoring of these activities would be needed.
