Notes : No subspecies known.

Identification
Fairly slim body with humped forehead. Orange body with blue-grey longitudinal stripes. Bright yellow to white oval spot on back, above lateral line. Orange and blue lines from eye to mouth.

Range and habitat
West-central Pacific, from Singapore and Borneo to Philippines, Indonesia and New Caledonia. Found around shallow inshore to deep coral reefs.

IUCN RED LIST : LEAST CONCERN
CITES : Not Listed
Status : The species is caught in large numbers for food, more rarely for the trade. Its occurrence in deeper water may help preventing further declines but monitoring is needed.
